Life As It Presents Itself

"For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin--real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life." -- Alfred D. Souza

Back on track to a slightly more sporty lifestyle. Something which I'm more accustomed to when I was a teenager. Haha... Require less sleep then perhaps. Now as age catches up with me, the body is sounding out that I need more sleep. Haha... :D Love to listen to soft music and, sit back and relax these days. Catching up with some old friends over the weekends over a cuppa tea, coffee, or booze is something of a norm in recent yrs too. :)

Lomography

Lomo what? Haha… Some of you may be a bit lost with this lomography term. Well, I was too, and was only introduced to this term by my photography enthusiast-freaky wife lately. Haha…

Let me define that for you with this extract from wikipedia:

“Lomography emphasizes casual, snapshot photography. Characteristics such as over-saturated colors, off-kilter exposure, blurring, "happy accidents," and alternative film processing are often considered part of the "Lomographic Technique. Users are encouraged to take a lighthearted approach to their photography, and use these techniques to document everyday life, as the Lomo LC-A's small size, simple controls, and ability to shoot in low light encourages candid photography, photo reportage, and photo vérité through the much-touted 10 Rules.”

For more information about this, please refer to http://www.lomography.com.

So armed with this new Holga 120GN lomo camera that she’s bought, we headed down to the Southern Ridges for a morning walk. It was Saturday and I had to wake up early for this. (appreciation please?) I held our Lumix while she held her new toy, and then we snapped away at objects that we find may look nice.

Here a few pics that my wife has taken over the last wkend. Which are the normal pics and which are the lomo ones? Enjoy and cheerios!

Part 2... Continued...

Part 2… new hobby: photographer’s assistant… haha.. Well, my wife is trying to fulfill her dreams in photography, so as her hubby, I have to be supportive right?

So, first stop, we went to the Fullerton Bridge to try and catch a glimpse of the national day fireworks. Managed to get a few other shots too.

Next stop, on another rainy day, after a dress tryout with the rest of my sister’s jiemeis, we headed down to meet wife’s friend who helped us reserved a spot behind ORQ. There we managed to capture a few beautiful shots of the Korean fireworks display. Photographer: wife; Umbrella holder: me. Haha.. I did my share of capturing a few shots too, in case you were wondering. Left the main task to my wife cos my hands weren’t as steady as hers. Outcome: brilliant with the help of a little photoshop.

End of part 2...

Social Graciousness?

Side-track a bit. I've used to hear a lot of this phrase, "social graciousness", during my secondary school days. My then principal will emphasize in his weekly assembly speech about this, and to make social graciousness part of our lives.

Unfortunately, I'm beginning to see less and less of this side from people. I really wonder where has all the education gone? Are the kids these days being taught social graciousness in school? Or maybe the school education system places grades as priority and not the well-being of the future generation. I seriously wonder... educate or literate is more important.

When I'm queueing up in line at the bus terminal, I see kids cutting queue in front. On the buses or trains, I often see pregnant women standing, likewise the elderly. It's fair if someone had offered his/her seat and that standing person declined, but I don't see such offers at all. There are times when I see someone giving up their seat for the more needy, but incidents are few. It does bring a smile to my face and warmth to my heart when this happens.

What is becoming of our society? Are we really becoming a selfish lot? Only bothered about grades or oneself? It's a real disgrace to see Singapore falling into that.

Catching Up (Part 1)

My wife questioned me, "when was the last time you updated your blog?". My reply, "no idea.". Haha.. Seriously, I can't recall when was the last time. Only knew it when I saw the date in here. haha... Since then, few things have changed, while others still remain pretty much the same.

Think the most significant as some had already noticed at the start of this blog, "my wife". Yes yes, I'm legally married, but not customarily.
Haha.. We've decided to settle down this May and that was a beautiful solemnisation event joined by our families, close relatives and good friends. We invited a very popular JP, Mr Chan to preside over this event. He was great, conducted it in a light yet solemn way, his voice is clear, audible and words easily understood. Thumbs up for the old gentleman and a big thank you to all our guests.

We 'ventured' into Malaysia for our ROM-moon. Headed to Colmar Tropicale at Berjaya Hills in Pahang. Kinda near Genting if you ask me, cos we kept seeing the signs guiding motorists there along the way. A French themed resort at the first look, but poorly maintained overall. Some pics below to share. The exterior looks good, but interior needs to be improved.

Part 1 for now. To be continued...
